Miniature Tree of Life
(May 2010)

Copyright: Periphaeria Designs, 2010

Lately I have been fascinated by trees of life and when I was designing Mother's Day gift for my mother this design suggested itself to me.

This design is very well suited for using leftover floss as it only takes 2-3 lenghts of regular cotton (depending of the lenght of your "length" and stitching style) and would look lovely stitched over one strand (or on high count linen) and finished as a scissor fob - as stitching is an important part of the tree of our lives!

The model is stitched on 32 count flax linen (in courtesy of Violarium) with DMC 107.

Poinsettia Star
(December 2009)

Copyright: Periphaeria Desigs, 2008

One day I was pondering over the Holiday ornament for this year, thought of a star motif which is commonly used in Scandinavian knitwear and decided to give it a try. I wanted to design a traditional, yet different ornament with traditional colour scheme which would look good even when stitched with other colours, or even monochromatic and which my mother would love – as usual I designed this for her. This design is very well suited for using leftover floss as it uses only about half a skein of floss altogether. You can also substitute most of the metallic yarn with beads, or if you want less spark just substitute it with regular cotton – and with minor alterations you can just pick your favourite hand-dyed and stitch a monochromatic version.

The model is stitched on 32 count charcoal gray linen with DMC and Kreinik (I used gold blending filament because there was no actual metallic thread in my stash).
